Winter Warmth Accessories with Shug …”Live From The Hammock”

Walked to a “stealth” site near my home in an early cold and freshly snowed on 15º day. Cooked some lunch on my terrific minibulldesign mini-atomic alcohol stove. Had some cocoa in my DIY hammock (I love my hammock!) and yakked about some of my favorite and essential winter accessories. Set up the hammock in “real time” … 1 min. 30 seconds! Wrist warmers, gloves, gaiters and beanies are all touched upon. As usual …. I prattle on and act like a galoot. All secure in sector seven!

Your Billy Bob Thorton (Slingblade) impression was impeccable. Bravo. I am going to make myself a pair of sleeve gaunlets. I once considered making some leather ones with a watch strap and pockets for other survival items.

  13. shugemery Says:

The whole deal without bugnet …15ounces.

  14. OregonBackpacker Says:

  17. OregonBackpacker Says:

ahh i got enough black nilon ripstop to make a double hammock for a mat in between the layers. It should of only taken me a hour and a half to sow but the machine is screwed up and i spent 5 hours and only have 2 seams done. This hammock will weigh more though. Is that the material that you use.

  18. shugemery Says:

Absolutely … in fact that is what you want to use. Best if the hammock is breathable. Try Ed Speer’s website ..speerhammocks to get real good stuff.

  19. OregonBackpacker Says:

would ripstop nilon work good for a DIY hammock

  20. shugemery Says:

    Hey Shug,
I see your a fellow Minnesotan. Gear testing in Roseville…NICE!! My buddy and I just did a gear test down in the MN river valley near Bloomington. Have to respect the “urban” camping. We are getting ready for a winter camping trip in Duluth. Great vids! They always make me laugh!

I downloaded Guitar Hero World Tour torrent from http://www.games-iso.com last week and, despite the fact its a”dusty” game, its the best PS3 game ever made in my opinion ;-)

  27. peanutdude Says:

Hey shug. I’m considering getting a hammock for camping. I have a small budget and I was thinking of getting a Hennessey. I just wanted to know where you keep your gear where it’s raining if you’re in your hammock. I like to keep everything dry and possibly accessible.
    Thanks man. Great vids!

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

  39. cabal alz Says:

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

  40. cabal alz Says:
